Tom Scofield

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_video link=”https://vimeo.com/120527483″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]In 2014 Tom Scofield relocated from Wellington in New Zealand to Melbourne for a change in lifestyle and to experience the Australian rolling scene first hand.

Since his arrival he has seamlessly integrated into the Melbourne Rollerblading crew; the local characters he has watched through Aussie rolling media have now become his close friends, and he has been killing the game.

Since making the move, he’s taking out second place at the 2014 Australian Rolling Open, second at the Victorian Titles at held at his local park in Prahran, and you can see him getting better and better at every session.

Now representing Square Wheels from his homeland of New Zealand, and his new Australian sponsor Velvet Couch Clothing, Tom is a very welcome addition to the family.

Be sure to keep an eye out for his upcoming street edit!

Brisbane’s rollerblading scene is booming: Amazing shots from Wednesday RampAttak sessions

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://www.rollerblading.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Nat-Rawlings.jpg” image_width=”1200″ image_height=”800″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”25″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]4Sqair Australia’s Nat Rawlings gives rollerblading.com.au the rundown on Brisbane blading scene’s Wednesday night sessions at RampAttak indoor skate park.

Brisbane Rollerbladers started organically as a Facebook group, where members can post anything rollerblading-related. It is used mostly for local content like potential new spots to skate, skate parks, photos and edits, or even just to say “Hey, I’m rolling tomorrow, who’s keen?”.

It was through the Brisbane Rollerbladers facebook group that the Wednesday night RampAttak sessions first started and popularity continues to grow. Mostly headed by Luke Stonebanks, it has turned into a great mid-week roll for those that don’t get the chance to roll on the weekends. The vibe is ‘all are welcome’, and on any given night anyone from beginners, to some of Brisbane’s best, are likely to show up.

It is a sizable indoor skate park with almost everything you need for a well-rounded roll. Covered in plywood, Ramp Attack is smooth and much more forgiving than concrete. There is always someone up for a game of B.L.A.D.E. or doing some filming, whether it is professional or just using an iPhone.[/vc_column_text][mk_image_slideshow images=”8470,8472,8473″ image_width=”1200″ image_height=”800″ effect=”fade” animation_speed=”700″ slideshow_speed=”7000″ pause_on_hover=”false” smooth_height=”true” direction_nav=”true”][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]RampAttak, located at 393 Bilsen Rd, Geebung, is worth traveling the extra mile. It is accessible by train (Sunshine Station) and the Wednesday night session goes from 6pm till 9pm. If you forget to bring a helmet they have some for hire.

Cost $13.50 or $11 for members, with helmet hire $5. Under 18s need to have a consent form filled out by their guardian before they can skate at Ramp Attack for the first time. For more information on RampAttak, see their official website.

Velvet Couch Clothing adds New Zealand shredder Carl Tangen to the team for 2015

Carl Tangen

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwtrPOuZk-8″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]Australia’s mighty Velvet Couch Clothing have added New Zealand’s Carl Tangen to their team in 2015.

Also known as Meat, the Wellington-based shredder not only rips on the blades, but is also reportedly a fearsome muay thai fighter as well. Don’t mess with this guy!

We could say more, but really… his skating speaks for itself.

CJ Wellsmore wasn’t at Winterclash in The Netherlands this year … or was he?

Last year’s Winterclash champion CJ Wellsmore didn’t make the event in 2015, but his presence was certainly felt.

Much like the crew of Richie Eisler impersonators last year, a group of fans took it upon themselves to ensure CJ still was a feature at the event, if only in spirit.

This year, David Sizemore took out the Pro Final ahead of Anthony Pottier and Nick Lomax, with Joe Atkinson taking out the USD Best Trick contest with a killer 360 fishbrain over the door to 270 cess slide.

Check out the archive of Locoskates’ livestream of the Pro qualifiers and finals below, plus full Top.10 results.

Pro Finals:
1. David Sizemore
2. Anthony Pottier
3. Nick Lomax
4. Joe Atkinson
5. Eugen Enin
6. Jacob Juul
7. Roman Abrate
8. Diego Guilloud
9. Guillaume Legentil

New French clothing brand Arcena announce CJ Wellsmore as latest pro rider

Arcenda Brand

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][mk_image src=”http://www.rollerblading.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/arcena4.png” image_width=”800″ image_height=”450″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”25″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]French clothing brand Arcena has added Australian powerhouse CJ Wellsmore to the team for 2015, joining names like Antony Pottier, Mannon Derrian and more.

It’s a big coup for Arcena, with the Sydney-based star currently ranked No.1 in the world in competition skating.

With its feet in rollerblading, music and art, Arcena looks like it’s expanding strongly in 2015, with a growing “wolf pack” including not only skaters, but artists and music producers as well.

While the gear isn’t stocked in Australia yet, expect to see it Down Under soon through their new relationship with Wellsmore. The brand will also present at this year’s Winterclash trade show.

Gavin Drumm pro bearings available now from the Go Project, wheels and more soon

Gavin Drumm Pro Bearings Go Project

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGJFrLP7mtU”][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”true” align=”left” margin_bottom=”0″]New hardgoods company Go Project has released a line of pro bearings for Australian skater Gavin Drumm, alongside products for Richie Eisler and Dominic Bruce.

To celebrate the brand’s launch, they have just dropped a killer introduction edit featuring their three first pros, editing by the one-and-only Dom West. It’s a well-deserved endorsement for Drumm, who is without a doubt one of the best skaters in the country, and arguably the world.

The Go Project looks like they are going about it the right way, too. Instead of having a traditional “team” of skaters, they sponsor people on a per product basis. They pay the skaters upfront for the pleasure and the good news for Drumm is, all profits for the first production run of bearings will end up in his pocket!

Here’s what Go Project have to say about Gavin Drumm’s new pro bearings:

“Gav Drumm’s skating is fluid and technical. Go Project Gavin Drumm skate bearings’ low torque and high tolerance are perfect for a heavy vertical load-bearing sport like inline skating.

“They use seven Chrome Steel ball bearings protected by a single sided Nylon shield. Nylon does not dent like metal compounds. This, combined with the single shielded design means that the ball bearings are less likely to be crushed or caught between dented shields.

“Go Project does not use the generic ABEC scale to rate bearings because of its irrelevance to the specific tolerances imposed by inline skating, where quality of manufacturing and materials far surpass theimportance of a rating based upon ‘revolutions per second’. Gav’s bearings simply have a Speciality Rating of 4/5 which represents their performance when used as a skate bearing.”

Go Project Gavin Drumm bearings and other products are available in Australian retailers now. For more on the Go Project, check their official website.[/vc_column_text][mk_image src=”http://www.rollerblading.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Gav-drumm-right-shape.jpg” image_width=”800″ image_height=”450″ crop=”true” lightbox=”false” frame_style=”simple” target=”_self” caption_location=”inside-image” align=”left” margin_bottom=”25″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

At 35-years-old, the Bayside Blades rider is one of Australia’s longest-standing and most influential bladers.

This video is proof he is still shredding harder than most skaters half his age!

Filmed and edited by Matt Caratelli. Song: Frank Wiedemann & Ry Cuming – Howling (Âme Remix).
