Any Given Sunday            Edition: 3            May 2002

So.....welcome to the 3rd edition of Any Given Sunday - Inline Email Newsletter.

Well its been an interesting month around the camp.....I had lunch with a lovely young lady from Planet-X, helped out in the Salomon warehouse for a couple of days and kept working on getting some cool prizes for the "Bumper Sticker" competition.

So lets start with that.....yes we have a winner....and it wasn't hard to pick the winner coz he was the only person who sent in an entry.....all good things take time I know (mind you it might all change when you see some of the upcoming prizes)  The winner for the April edition of Any Given Sunday is Rhys Turner from Currans Hill. Rhys is only 8 years old and has a really cool old man who takes him skating all the time...yep that's right his dad is a skater dude too!  Apparently they went down to Canberra to bust out at all the parks down there during the last school holidays. They sent in 3 pics and the winning pic was a great shot of Rhys transferring  with an  "Any Given Sunday" bumper sticker stuck across his chest. The pic will be posted on the Any Given Sunday page currently being kindly hosted at www.rollerblading.com.au (See below)

For his efforts, Rhys wins a copy of the new "USD Team Video Australia 2002"  and a USD Lanyard. Many thanx to Paul from USD Australia for being the first prize giver.

Upcoming prizes:    May - VG19 Vid + Senate Lanyard
June - $40 Voucher to Manly Blades "Online Store"
July - Darxyde Divisions T-Shirt / Sweat band and a United Front Video
August- A Set of FIZIKS Frame.....yep no bullshit!
September - USD T-shirt and Kizer T-Shirt (brand new range)

So I really don't know why you wouldn't enter. All you have to do is get yourself an "Any Given Sunday" Bumper sticker and send us a pic showing you or your mates with the sticker in the pic!

You can currently get the stickers in NSW at Manly Blades / Alive! SK8 / Bondi Boards and Blades......we are trying to get them into Action Inline as well and also interstate. So go give your local skate shop a copy of this newsletter and tell them you want to buy a bumper sticker so you can win some cool prizes. Send you entries to comps@18zero.com or mail em to:
                                                                                                                            18Zero
                                                                                                                            PO Box 436
                                                                                                                            Narellan, NSW, 2567

Now....are you all wondering what's been going on with Planet-X and where the trials are????

Well this is all you need to know at the moment:

Planet-X have been working their backsides off on 1800 Reverse Street Active which is touring the country side and recently was a MAMMOTH success at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The inline boys showed em all up, and a soon as you are finished reading this newsletter, you should log straight onto www.streetactive.org.au and check out the site. So on top of all the Street Active stuff, Planet-X have been putting together the Trials and are in the process of finishing off last minute arrangement with sponsors, venues etc. Hopefully what will happen is that the trial events will be linked with a Street Active event, which will mean an absolutely HUGE day, wherever the trials end up around Austalia.
(make sure you drink lots of Milo and ring 1800 Reverse when you get stuck up the road)
So all you need to do at the moment is practice your butts off and stay tuned to www.planetx.net.au and www.streetactive.org.au for all the latest info.

We have to get all serious now.......I'm sure you have all seen the crap going on with insurance companies at the moment and the ridiculous cost of Public Liability Insurance and even the Doctors insurance company going bust. Well the bad news is that it impacts on us and our sport as well. Event organisers are finding it harder and harder to get insurance to cover them for their events and if they do find an insurance company willing to take it on, they have to put some certain practices in to place.

This is where you guys come in. (and I am really looking for the Inliners to show up the tree-killers on this one)
WHEN YOU SKATE IN A COMPETITION YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET!
Whether you think this sux or not is irrelevant, if you think it sux and you know you are going to either refuse to wear a helmet, refuse to do it up properly or give the organisers a hard time....THEN DON"T ENTER THE COMP.

I can tell you right now that ALL Planet-X events have had this requirement put on them by their insurance company and that goes for trials and the Summer Games and includes warm-ups, comps, photo shoots, whatever. If you decide to skate without a helmet, not only is it likely you will be instantly disqualified but it is likely you may even cause the whole event to be cancelled. You better believe that the insurance companies are likely to send a spy out to watch the events and if someone spoils it then the insurance becomes Null and Void and the event will be cancelled.

And I think it is necessary to say that the "pro's" and high profile skaters in Australia have a responsibility to set an example in this area, after all its you guys who make a living out of the sport and if there are no comps to compete in and you cant make a living then what?? So lets have all the inliners out there show that they want comps to keep going and they want insurance companies to get off the case of event organisers. We will be facing this exact problem at the end of this year when 18Zero puts on the second series of Inline Anarchy comps and I am personally not willing to put myself, my company or my family at financial risk because someone doesn't think wearing a helmet is cool. The easiest answer for me will be to can the comps.
(ps....any of you guys who have been to Woodward Camp would know that you must wear knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet. This includes the pro's, so if its good enuff for there....its good enuff for here.)

Speaking of Woodward.....good luck to Sydney skater Dean Foldi who was lucky enough to receive a scholarship style programme to Woodward. He will be at the Camp for the entire 14weeks it is open over their summer. A big thanx to Woodward Camp as well as Deans sponsors; Roces, Pro-Tec, Kizer, 2nd Regime, also to Spire clothing who have thrown Dean a heap of cool gear to wear over there. (yes, Spire has primarily been a skateboard brand but rumor has it they are trying to balance between the two if possible....ohh well we'll see)
.....and whilst on America......apparently well known Aussie skater Paul McGreal won a big comp in Canada recently and scored himself a car. He managed to sell the car which has given him enuff funds to stay on and rip in the states. This has come straight off the back of his top ten placing at the Planet-X Summer Games last year. Congrats to Paul

Snippets
My apologies go to James O'Connor from www.rollerblading.com.au for forgetting to mention them as one of the sponsors of Inline Anarchy in the last newsletter.

A massive thanks to the boys from "Solid Interactive" web design down in Canberra. They are skaters and are keen to work with other skaters and companies who need specialist web design. I say specialist because their work is "da bomb". They produce kick ass sites with awesome flash designs. They are currently working on a site for Inline Anarchy and then I'm going to get them to do a 18Zero site. So if you know anyone who is looking into a website..no matter what style they want, email me their details @ contact@18zero.com and I will get them hooked up with "Solid Interactive."

Darxyde Divisions Road Kill video is out now! I will try and get one for a prize

8 Reasons Video "The Lost Island" is out now! Thanks to Josh Clarke for donating a copy as a "roving 18Zero Prize" that means we may turn up to a skate spot or park and give a prize to someone who is busting out huge.

I did a sticker run to Alive! SK8 on Friday night and caused mayhem when I chucked out stickers from Planet X, 1800 Reverse Street Active, Salomon and Dakine...thanx to all those companies for sending me stickers. Support the people who support you! (ps can i have some more please for this months sticker run)
