Penrith Skate Park, Sydney NSW Penrith City Council
and the firm @leisure have held the final meeting in Penrith Library to discuss
and finalize the plans for the soon to be built Skating facility located in
Jamison Park in Penrith. Convic Skate Parks
Australia have designed a skating set up and was put forward to local Inline
skaters, skateboarders and BMX riders. The need for personal input was needed
but the group was pleased with the design only wishing to modify a few changes
to include round hand rails and square hand rails for an equal opportunity for
all aggressive sports people, and possibly a vert wall. The park will
measure approximately 20 metres by 40 metres (though this is not exact) around
the surrounding perimeter. The park will be one of the many great designs mixing
and matching other skate parks together but yet still maintaining a unique
quality all of its own. In the park will
include the usual bowl design approximately 5 feet in height, a good number of
flat banks, quarter pipes and kinked and standard planters (some of which will
not be equip with coping), as well as a flight of six stairs with a rail in the
middle, a mini area for beginners and as you would have guessed, fun boxes. The park will take approximately 6 weeks for construction and is to be
finished by Christmas 2001. It will be located in Jamison Park, Penrith closest
to York Road. Netball is held every non raining weekend and it is situated
pretty close to the skate park site, however this has been assured not to affect
either company, as well as the beginners section closest to the netball courts
building and child playground to stop any interruptions/accidents due to
toddlers/minors passing through the experienced section of the park. Public
phones are nearby as well as multiple shops. It is approximately a 10 to 15
minute walk from Penrith Train station but check bus timetables if you wish not
to walk. The possibility of
night lighting is still being discussed due to the cost. The set amount is
$125,000.No rails will be structured around the perimeter as it will be set away
from York Road and dirt hills will make the outer edges safe from drop off
(similar to Chatswood). Release written by
